I will give as much info as i can to get the best answer:

I had My Passport plugged in to my computer running an excel document and it was knocked off my computer and hit the ground with the program still running. Just the Hard drive fell. The cord was still plugged in to the computer. I reconnected the cord to the hard drive. I tried pulling it up again to find another document and the computer could not find the hard drive. It has always read as my passport or as a usb on both of my computers. Now it is reading as a local disk. If i go to my devices it shows up as my passport with a sub bullet with local disk sub bulleted underneath. I go to try to adjust the lettering of the hard drive and it will not allow me to make the change because the computer says it's working fine. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

An external drive that has a significant fall while running has a good chance of having mechanical defects that will prevent it from working properly. It's circuit boards are still intact, which may be why it shows up at all.

I would try running WD Drive Utilities on it to see if you get any information. Look HERE to download it.

There is nothing you can do to get a Passport that has experienced a head crash to recognize without specialized data recovery tools like PC-3000. If the data is important, get it to a professional. I know these guys specialize in recovering data from WD Passports: WD Passport Data Recovery

The more you mess around with it yourself, the less likely it'll be possible to get the data back.

If the data isn't that important, trow it in the trash bin. Trust me it's not worth the time and aggravation that you'll go through trying to do it yourself.
