Wd my passport ultra 1TB

I was syncing my ipad using itunes with a folder in the hard disk when the the laptop crashed. Since then the hard disk is not being read properly. It takes a long time before it is detected and i can open the drive but it finally gives up and becomes unresponsive when i try to open a folder inside. Windows recommend to fix the system files it completed almost 80 percent and then it just got stuck. It also doesnt eject and i can't shutdown the laptop or computer until i just plug out the hard disk. It does make a funny click sound from time to time.

Please advise what to do.

I'm very sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Passport drive! 🙁 I'd recommend you to back up any data from it to a different location before proceeding with the troubleshooting.
First, I'd advise you to use WD's Data LifeGuard diagnostics tool to test the HDD for issues. Running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the utility will help us determine what is the health and SMART status of your WD My Passport. It could be an indication of a physical damage on the hard drive.
