WD My Passport Ultra (3TB maybe) and save files

I play games, like a lot of them, and as a result have a lot of saves file. I'm wondering how the WD Backup software that comes with the My Passport Ultra, handles save files. Many games might not be accessed or used for a long time and therefore the save file will be up to date, but what about games I play in-between backups? Does the backup software read or view each file individually and backs them up if there's been a change, surely this would take too long? So as long as there are no newly created files it just skips over them? (Why don't you use Steam cloud? Because my computer is already broken and barely remains turned on the 2 minutes, I also have 378 games on Steam, that's a lot of saves files/games to backup in 2 minute chunks. That's why)

Just wondering if anyone had any insight into this

Thanks

Hey there, maddock34.

If the those files are set for backup, then yes, you should have no trouble with the continuous backup. Just set the backup frequency from "Scheduled backup" to "Continuous backup". That option monitors all the files that have been added to the backup plan and automatically backs them up whenever they are saved or changed. You could take a closer look at WD SmartWare's features here: WD SmartWare.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately the software I'm currently using doesn't have 'Continuous Backup'. It only allows the setting up of a schedule (days and time to back up) and what drive to include

. And it seems like SmartWare might do what I want, but unfortunately building a new computer is a tad expensive. Thanks for the help

It seems like you have the WD Backup software, which is a different backup tool. However if you wish to try and backup everything with WD SmartWare it does have a 30-day trial period.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by getting a new computer for the WD SmartWare? Do you mean that you're talking about the same computer which shuts down after about 2 minutes and that you can't install WD SmartWare to backup your files?
Basically if the issue with that computer is not connected with its drive in any way, you could still connect that internal drive to a different computer and backup your files.

Sorry if I've misunderstood the situation. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Alright I've been having trouble signing on and haven't been able to reply till now. Disregard what I said previously, I have SmartWare now, and have selected continuous backup for (C: ) drive.

Thanks for the help. I'll get back to you should anything go wrong or I need anymore help
