I've had a Passport for a long time, but up until now I've used MacDrive to see the files on my Windows laptop and that's worked fine (still does).

However, the files won't show up on my Mac, it just shows the damn Virtual Drive that WD insisted on bundling with it. Worse, I can't install the WD Smartware software because it crashes everytime. This is both the software on the CD and the latest installer I took from the website.

This is what I see on disk utility: https://s23.postimg.org/5tkt743ej/Screen_Shot_2017_01_04_at_19_13_56.png

I recently tried reformatting to Exfat and it didn't change anything. I still have to view the thing using MacDrive on my Windows laptop.

Any ideas?

Hey there, Bryant.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your drive. 🙁

Is it safe to assume that all the data on that drive is replaceable, since you've mentioned that you've recently reformatted it? If "yes", I'd advise you to try and test the HDD via DLG by running both tests (Quick and Extended) (you'll have to use a Windows computer for that): How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows. This is necessary just to see what's the situation with the drive.
If you decide to test it with a Mac, here's how to do it: How to test a drive for defects or problems on a Mac.

It looks like the file system of the drive is not recognized, could you post a screenshot of what you see when you click "info" as well, or what you see when you open Disk Management in Windows?

By the way, you should try the drive with a different cable as well, just in case it turns out to be a faulty connection.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Hey,

The data's save-able from my Windows laptop, so I can still move it off and reformat again if need be. I'll try the DLG now.

In the mean time, here's what I see when I click info on Mac:

And here's what I see on Windows DM with MacDrive running:

(When I uninstalled MacDrive, it disappears: https://s23.postimg.org/92o0c4d0b/Screenshot_2.png

Have tried with a different cable too and no dice.
