I am using WD My Passport Ultra 1TB for many years. Had also another WD passport 320gb before. I bought WD My Passport portable 2TB (Slim) (WDBYVG0020BBK) in used condition, however it had 5 spin counts and 1 hour usage only. But cosmetically it has quite visible scratches, signs of wear which is not usual for an unused drive. SMART shows everything is fine. The item didn't have real image as were sold in many counts without cable and box thus had generic image only.

The odd thing is before I never heard my portable drives to make a sound while moving it around. For testing purposes I connect previous one - it didn't make any sound. Moving the HDD while using it, is not common thing I do, however sometimes have to. When I lean it a bit it starts make some noise - like spinning disk touches something, or the pin head touches to the disk. I am not sure is it fault or the design of this models have this. If pin touches the disk - that might mean scratching, which can be disastrous.

Have you faced this ?

Its a spinning drive.
It may or may not make noise as you move it while in operation.

Don't move it while it is spinning.
Keep good backups.
IME you should not be moving a HDD while in use.

Well, sure I know you shouldn't move it, and only sometimes I do it. However it is a portable drive which could be moving around - for example if I am on a car it can slide a bit or lean.

I would like to hear - did you experience your drive making a sound while moving it slightly?

Some drives make more noise than others.
Even among different examples of the same exact make/model.
