I'm looking at one of these for a boot drive for a mini ITX rig that I'm planning. I don't think I necessarily need 4th gen PCI-E for this one due to cost but as long as I get one that's decently performing that should be fine. I need at least a 1TB drive for this since it will be my primary boot drive and I will also be buying a second one for storage. I am also open to suggestions as long as it's a quality drive like Intel, WD, Samsung, Corsair, Crucial, etc.

I am also looking to buy this at least now because it looks like the price of storage is going to go up (yay).

Solution
Either.
SN750, 970 EVO, Crucial P2.

What will this system be doing?
What other storage will be in this, if any?

This is going to be the primary boot drive. Main thing I'm doing with this system is that I want to build a console size system for playing games, streaming, etc. The case I'm going to use is the Fractal Node 202. So space is going to be tight and the fewer wires I use, the better.

What is the cost difference? You are VERY unlikely to notice a difference in the vast majority of tasks.

Yeah that's what I figured.

Any non-crappy 3.0 drive will work.
Crucial, Samsung, WD.

Avoid ADATA and Kingston, and all those lesser brands. Avoid like COVID.

This article I saw in PC Magazine has made some questionable choices then, LOL.

I think I'll get the SN750 then. I have one in my laptop and it works very well, at least for secondary storage. I have yet to use one as a boot drive.

I have a SN750 have had 0 problems, Samsung 970 is a good drive also although my brother bought a 1TB one and it melted down.

Samsung was very eager to get that drive back to see what happened and he got a new one quickly from them, no problems with the new one. At least that shows they don't expect to have problems with their drives.

EDIT like a 1 week turnaround after they received his drive.

I am happy with my Sabrant rocket Q, and the above drives should be better, so I doubt you will be disappointed.

Sn750 would be my pick since it seems less expensive.

I have a Rocket 4.0 in my main PC and it's a great drive so far. I thought about getting a Rocket for this one but decided to go with the SN750 instead.

This is the motherboard I want to get for this PC as soon as it's available: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b560-i-gaming-wifi-model/

Though I may wind up with a B550 over it if the overall system cost is cheaper.

Instead of buying 2 can you just buy one larger drive?

Then you can partition if you want.

I have quite a few SSD's, NVME's in builds.....so far they all held up no issues.

Silcon power (budget budget on most of them)
adata sx8200 (I know I know bad rap, but its the cheapest 2TB NVME gen 3 I have found, and its not the bottom on the ssd tier list, I still got decent speeds, just not the speeds they said)
Adata S50( actually on the tier A list, and pretty speedy)
SAmsung 960 EVO (Great)
Samsung 980 Pros (great, just still a little high, but hey did lower it 50 bucks)
Samsung 850 PRO (awesome drive)
Samsung 850 EVo (still awesome)
Sabrent Rocket (still rocking, they have like 4 models to pick from based on your budget......)

Unless you get a dud out of the box, it seem smost SSD's last a while. I dont' know of anybody personally who gets close to the TBW ratings on drives.......

Find the best bang for your buck and good luck!!

Makes more sense getting a 2TB gen 3 for 210-240, then paying 350 for a Gen 4. Unless you just have money burning a whole into your pockets.

I just wouldn't buy adata at all since you don't know what you are getting.

Depends on your goal, if you value, value over performance the 8200 is still good. What other drives get 2500 write for 200 for 2tb? Not many in that class/price point (maybe the sabrent depending pricing)

Now if you swore off ADATA just caused something changed and they didn't tell us I understand I get it. However too, if they still have the best bang for the buck, this is cutting off your nose inspite of your face? I guess it depends how strongly you feel about their choices.

The best 2TB deal this week is the S50 Lite for 210 for 2TB its a gen 4 NVME!!!! I don't' know of any other NVME Gen 4 for 210 for 2tb? It's ADATA, its also Tier A.

Don't spend too much time worrying about this one being .56 faster on writes etc. You will buy a newer SSD and be super happy.

Sometimes you just have to jump based on the best data you have, and enjoy it. Don't second guess yourself.

Problem is, how do you know you are going to get that performance? Adata has changed things without telling us in the past, they probably will continue to.

Sure, I don't KNOW that they have changed it, but with something as valuable as your data, I want to buy from a brand I KNOW will not change things and cheap them out without me knowing.

Its a wildcard, and not one I am willing to risk personally, so I will not reccomend it. Considering there are known trustworthy drives at similar cost, why not buy something you KNOW is going to be reliable and exactly what was advertised. ]

Between ADATA, Samsung, etc....its not the raw speed difference.
Outside of raw benchmarks, you'd be hard pressed to actually tell.

Rather, it is the shadiness of the company.
Shipping one batch, then changing to a controller that gives lower performance. But keeping the same model number and label...THAT is unacceptable.
Kingston did the same thing several years ago.

Given the other top tier companies that DON'T do that...why patronize shadiness?
