i just ordered the ssd

i don't have it yet though.

trying to find tools to confirm encryption, as the spec sheet does not say.

I'm wondering if oems will use a Phison controller, but disable encryption.

AIUI, most, if not all, current SSDs implement encryption by default. The advantage of encryption is that you can effectively erase the entire SSD just by deleting all copies of the encryption key and then generating a new one. You don't need to actually erase any NAND cells. The other advantage of encryption is that your data cannot be recovered by physically removing the NAND flash chips and dumping their content with a reader.

most of the new western digital ssd's do not have encryption at all, based on the latest reviews.

includes sn850 sn750 sn550 and all the other consumer grade wd drives you find on amazon

but most of those use wd's own controllers.
