Question WD SN850 NVMe SSD | getting 1700 read/write on PCIe 3.0

I was wondering, since i already saw a thread similar to this one talking about SN850 doing 1700 read/write on PCIe 3.0, if i change my mobo that has PCIe 4.0 slot, would it make any difference?

As for your motherboard, what BIOS version are you currently on and which slot are you populating on your motherboard(if you have multiple slots to work with)? If the M.2 slot you have the SN850 in is only rated for PCIe 3.0 speeds, then yes an M.2 slot(or a board with a slot) with PCIe 4.0 will be of benefit.

Looking at the SSD in your initial post, here I thought you just picked the wrong motherboard. You're going to need to change your processor as well to get PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds from your SSD, not just a motherboard purchase. You're just digging a hole in your wallet at this point to try and get PCIe 4.0x4 bandwidth. You should've asked before purchasing the SSD. If you went with a Samsung 970 Evo Plus or a Samsung 980(non pro) that would've been worthwhile.

Don't change anything to get higher benchmark numbers on an SSD. You won't get any real world benefits.

Your motherboard has PCIE 3.0 x2 M.2 slot. It has half bandwidth of a normal PCIE 3.0 x4 M.2 slot.
To achieve PCIE 4.0 x4 bandwidth you'll need a new motherboard and a new cpu.
