Hi.

I'm planning to get a 3 GB storage drive, for photos and videos.

I've narrowed down my choice to these two WD drives:

WD30EZRX : The standard green drive offered from WD, newer model. Slightly faster data transfer rate(175 mb/s). Has 2 year warranty.

WD30EURX : AV-GP Series, WD states that it's best for video streaming, and surveillance. It is an older model. Data transfer rate(145 mb/s). My store offers it with a 5 year warranty at slightly higher price.

Both have the Intellipower feature and 64 MB cache.

Should I go with the bigger warranty more expensive drive? Will this drive serve my storage needs equally as the other?

Hey there, spooks7er.

Generally speaking a WD Green drive would be the right choice for a storage HDD. It's cool and quiet and it's designed to be used as a secondary storage drive. On the other hand the WD-AV drive is designed for set-top boxes (PVR, DVR, NVR and IPTV), media servers, media centers and surveillance (as you've correctly stated). This means that it has features that you'd probably never need (or use) if you use it just for storage. On the other hand, if the longer warranty period is a crucial point for you, go ahead and get it, you should have no issues if you use it as a storage HDD. Basically it's all up to you and I'd recommend that you get the drive that best fits your budget and needs.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever.
