I wonder how many days it will take until Google yanks your account. Ask
Bligmerk how quick they will cancel accounts for needless cross posting and
general abuse toward others.

Hehe why should they?
HL2 goes for ~270 DKr retail and $50 for the bronze package (~290 DKr)
Similar packages and almost similar price

No distribution and retail costs and no problems with regards to
consumer rights in various countries

Question is the expected number of copies sold through Steam versus
through retail channels

If we're free of the constant, off-topic posts in the strategic newsgroup,
then it is great news.

This only means you won't be able to download the entire
game online.
Nothing is said about no longer having to download Steam
files after you buy and install the retail version...
Or about no longer needing to run Steam in the background
whenever you play the game...
Or about not being able to choose which patch you want
to use...
etc.
So just about all the problems you were listing in your
old posts are not addressed by this decision.

No, it means you can only buy it online, unless they find another
publisher.

They can publish it themselves, actually.

So the situation is even worse from SayNO's position.
What's he celebrating?

Actually the question is whether they make enough profit per copy via
Steam to make up for the potential loss of sales via a publisher. I
suspect not, but the loss of profit may be more than made up for by being
able to break free from the old publisher and contract. A new contract
with a new publisher would probably be more favourable to Valve,
especially as Steam -- I imagine -- gives them a tried & tested core of
sales to survive on.
