We need more reviews!

Very few sites offer quality reviews of CRT monitors (tomshardware is one of them as you can read with the latest Cornerstone review), and no site at all seems to offer comparisons between the best monitors...

I want to see extensive reviews of all Iiyama, Mitsu, Sony, ViewSonic, Cornerstone, Nec... products!
Guides that would be updated on a regular basis!
As it is now, it's impossible to make a wise decision when you buy a CRT monitor, people just seem to go for the hype...

I do understand that it is easier to benchmark CPUs and 3D cards than it is to review a monitor.
It's easy to compare framerates, and very hard to make reviews based on visual quality.
But what I don't understand is that monitors are often the most expensive piece of hardware in a PC, how come there are almost no CRT reviews?
I know LCDs are "hotter", and we do need LCD reviews, but CRTs will stay here for the next few years...

WE NEED MORE REVIEWS!!!

We also need better reviews.

THG just did a review of my p2460. In general this was one of the better monitor reviews I have seen, even though they fail to mention that All aperture grill monitors suffer from color purity, this is why all aperture grill monitors have purity controls.

When I review monitors I measure brightness, brightness uniformity, convergence, linearity, and raster regulation,to mention a few, as well as give a subjective review of the video quality. I would like to see the magazines include this type of information. If they cannot measure these specs for lack of the proper equipment, why don't they publish the manufacturer specifications? This would eliminate the general statements like "Trinitons have superior color and brightness" comments that often times are completely untrue.

I would like to see them include information on the CRT manufacturer. Looking at the specs you would say that most CRT's are the same. The CRT is the single largest cost of the monitor. This is an area where many manufacturers cut corners by using off brand CRT's.

I would also like to see the magazines take the cover off the monitor and look inside. Do a simple component count, connector count, PCB count. Less components, connectors and PCB's usually equals better reliability.

While they have the unit open, they should comment on the shielding, again another way manufacturers cut corners.

Personally I'm tiered of reading reviews about the unique user controls a certain monitor may have. Lets get to the meat of the subject.

i second the motion. didn't i post a thread aksing for more reviews too at some point? oh well, the point is that someone agrees with me now.

repeat after me, we are all individuals!

In the UK, several magazines have done roundups of 17" & 19" monitors that are quite exhaustive including Moire, Convergence etc...(computer shopper & PC Pro are 2 mags I get, give their websites a looksee, It may help...)

if U are in US though, sometimes the same monitor seems to have a different product codes...
