The language in my weather app has changed to Chinese! I have no idea why. I can't find any language related settings within the app...

Solution
i haven't been running it so i don't know what colours you mean. Might not help i have ublock on Firefox too so many of the connections just don't happen, and I don't use Firefox a lot. I will use it a bit and see if I can see any colours apart from icons of the sites the boxes represent.

I have Opera, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge installed, i only really use two of them at most but which two varies. edge is most ignored out of all, I haven't loaded Opera in a few months, so mainly use chrome and some Firefox. I use an irc chat channel sometimes and edge won't let me copy/paste into the client so it fails. Firefox is currently best at it but for a while Opera was better.

I have 4k monitor so can have chrome open in right hand of screen...

Thanks. Without even trying the fixes you posted, I just restarted my machine and the app is back to normal. I've no idea what caused that. I have been into the language settings trying to get Cortana to work (in NZ) but haven't been anywhere near anything Chinese.

I will keep an eye on it.

I can see this turning into an antivirus thread, I'm currently just using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

What's the deal with Win 10 and antivirus, are 3rd party apps required/necessary?

If the chinese didn't keep coming back, I wouldn't mention AV again 😉

But.. I would dl https://antivirus.comodo.com/antivirus-for-windows-10/ or http://www.bitdefender.com.au/solutions/free.html and get a second opinion. Defender better than nothing but there are also better choices.

Maybe NZ got invaded and they weren't going to announce it until midnight but they messed up your time zone. Australia will have to rescue you... if we not busy tomorrow. Actually, with the amount we trade with them, and their size, you would likely be on your own. We would likely be next.

Malwarebytes is clean but I'll run a couple of others as well. I've just checked the Windows feedback app and there's a ton of similar reports from people all over. Hopefully Microsoft will come out with an answer and a fix soon enough?

Will be happy to know it's not a virus... Nice one with the AU/NZ jokes, I take it your in the states though?

No, I am in Australia, I did say we. Aust sells so much minerals to China we would lose out. People in States may not have known how close you were to midnight when I made comment, you 3 hours ahead of me.

Malwarebytes isn't a virus scanner, it scans malware. Its meant to be a companion for AV, not a replacement.

Did you try my fixes once the Chinese returned?

Sorry I didn't quite understand your original comment and it did hint you were in Australia.

With the pile of similar reports in Windows feedback maybe it's more likely an issue with Win 10 or the weather app itself?

Cheer's for the antivirus links. I'm pretty sure I heard Windows 10 antivirus is meant to be pretty good? What are these programs like on system resources?

Gotta head off to NZ bed time now!

i don't use the start menu enough to look at weather app. I think I set it up a few weeks ago but all i use start menu for is turning PC off generally. Apps being buggy doesn't surprise me at all, I have a niggle with Groove where I have to change a setting every day.

I am not sure about Komodo, I use bitdefender but the total security version which includes a firewall as well. when its not running a scan it normally uses no CPU and about 261mb of ram in idle. If I scan my SSD it hits 100% CPU but I don't do that every day.

I think I used defender for a while but didn't like its scans would chew 100% CPU every scan. In summer that soon heats PC up when it is scanning SSD. Bitdefender just offered much more security and its quick system scan takes about 10 seconds to scan my SSD (though it only looks in certain locations). Full system scan can be slow though, but as its intrusion detection is always in top 2 AV in tests I feel safe enough to not run full scans very often.

That and I hide behind Ublock Origin on chrome, it doesn't even let me go to sites that are even potentially dangerous.

Have a good night :)

I shutdown my machine straight from the case power switch, no need for the start menu...

So you don't use Bitdefender anymore? Does it do real time monitoring?

I'm interested in Ublock so I added the extension but it is quite complex, how do I know what it's blocking by default, is it everything under the 3rd-party filter list?

I do still use Bitdefender, I will assume you mean Defender in this question:

Defender has real time: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3569-windows-defender-real-time-protection-turn-off-windows-10-a.html
Bitdefender does as well, real time being one of the basic functions of most AV now: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-antivirus,review-2588.html

Ublock Origin blocks everything by default and you have to add things to a whitelist before it shows anything: http://www.extremetech.com/internet/214151-ad-blocking-for-the-masses-part-one-ublock-origin

Even the Antivirus Plus is a yearly payment, can you link to where you think the free version is?

Over here at av-test.org they have performance information, is 16-20% slower in website launching actually noticeable?

i can't see it on the play store, you might want to try ghostery privacy browser, i have that on my S7 edge but I hardly ever use internet on my phone so never think to use it. Ghostery another add on similar to Ublock, it blocks a lot more than just ads though, it can stop web sites from functioning if you go mad with it.

This might help: https://www.maketecheasier.com/ublock-origin-better-than-adblock-plus/

AdBlock Plus isn’t without its flaws, however. By default, it won’t block certain advertisements from Google, Microsoft, and other big companies because they’ve paid for the privilege to have some of their ads remain unblocked.

Gee, I wonder if that is why ABP is on edge browser. Ublock blocks things ABP doesn't.

there aren't many reviews for it: https://www.expressvpn.com/internet-privacy/reviews/ublock-origin/

I've had a little look over the Ublock webpage and the wiki today to try and get a better understanding of how it works but I need to read a lot more, I just don't really understand what it's doing. I think I'm on some great quest to understand security now!...

I do find some of the ad's that I get based on my browsing habits/interests to be quite handy, is the point of Ublock to just block all ad's or can I set it up to only block suspicious malicious ad's? Does that make sense :/
