I have to say that the 'very dim light' display on logitech quick cam 4000's are a lot better than what was portrayed. I own both an orbit and a 4000 pro, they are pretty much equal under very dim light.


...that's it, I had to get it off my chest though.

I have an older 3com camera that looks just like the Inside Out Networks Watchport/V. The softwqre is the same VIV software and everything. I still use it and I like it's night-time capabilities.

That’s because they were using Sony CCD sensor ICX098BQ for the Pro 4000 and later on they switched to an inferior Sharp CCD LZ24BP and kept the Sony for the Orbit...
The reviewed Pro 4000 most likely is one of the new "improved" models 😉

Yeah, I have two of them. The Watchport/V is the same as the old 3COM HomeConnect camera, which 3COM discontinued and now Digi have picked up the license for.

It's about time someone recognised the performance of this excellent camera. I've been using it for over two years, and in all that time I have tried about half a dozen other types, but guess what? They all go back to the shop. I use the Watchport as a security camera for my house, and it's the ONLY one that can see ANYTHING after dark.

So come on webcam manufacturers! Improve the lowlight performance of your webcams! And come on Digi, how about a USB2.0 version so I can get something like a decent framerate?

Well I don't think Digi is actually doing any development on the camera or the drivers, considering that the drivers and hardware is pretty much the same that was available when Vista folded with the same winXP issue etc.
