webcam recording from PC in small size

I have a normal webcam and I want to use it to record my activities like speeches etc. But problem is that the video file captured is of huze size.. even for few minutes it turns out to be 700mb to 1 gb. In that case I can't record for hours. Any free software which can record for long with small size. Like for 1 hour under 1 gb. longer the time and smaller the size with good quality. It should be simple to operate. If some sort of automatic recording by selecting schedule is possible then it would be great so That I have to not go and start it and then stop it. I could fix timing like recording for one hour and then it automatically stops and saves the video.

but primary requirement would be small size but good quality. That is the main question. other things don't matter that much.

I don't use recording software but you can check in the settings or preference in your software and lower the resolution your recording at. If such an option doesn't exist look into using other software.

Recording at lower resolution will decrease the quality and file size, there is no free lunch here.
