Hi, i recently got VDSL 50mbps and i ve noticed that while my download speeds are great that webpages are taking their time to load. WIth my ADSL before was almost instant.
I read various stuff over the internet about it, and all concluded to changing my DNS to 8888 or so.
Im completely irrelevant with networking though, so i wanted to know how to do this step by step please. I managed to change it in ipv4 but i couldnt load into a lot of websites/forums i been using.
So my questions:
Do i have ipv4 or ipv6 or both? Do i need a static ip for this? Do i give it through router or through windows?
My router is a speedport 2i.
Any help much appreciated?

Solution
Completely disable the IPv6 support in your network settings. Most ISP do not support it anyway. Sometime if it is partially supported it will run parts of the page via ipv6 and parts via ipv4 and it runs slow.

Make sure you are using 8.8.8.8 not 8888 for the DNS. You could also try 4.2.2.2 but in general 8.8.8.8 is faster for most people.

You would want to put this ip in the network setting for ipv4. I would only change the dns leave the ip address as dhcp. You could change it in the router but I would do it in the pc since it is simpler to know if it is working. NSLOOKUP command will quickly tell you if dns is working and what server it is using.
You might want to go to speedtest and test your connection. Pay attention to your latency.
You don't need ipv6. You don't need a static so long as your router is set to provide DHCP.
Delete the contents of your temp folders (from the run menu %temp% and %windir%\temp)
CHeck what is starting with your browser. Try a different browser.

Thanks, so ipv6 disable is one thing i understood.
Emptying temp folders is also understandable.
From there on, can u please send me a picture with how i should setup ipv4? Cause i put 8.8.8.8 in dns (instead of automatic) and then i couldnt load on most of the webpages i am using. Only facebook and some other basic sites were loading.
Thanks

That should solve the DNS issue if that was the problem. You could try nslookup www.????? for sites that you are having issue with and be sure they actually resolve.

This could be a issue with the web browser. You also should check the firewall settings sometimes it decides you are on a public network and places more restrictions on you.
