I'd be the last to argue that 'WEI is pointless' -- it is and to a degree the rating's are 'fixed'. In particular you need both DDR3-1600 or faster and off the top of my head either 8GB or 16GB to get a 7.9 with the RAM sub-score.

Even a 6-core SB @ 4.8GHz yields a 7.8.

Well, that is bs that a 6core at 4.8 gets a 7.8, but oh well. Well then, what is the best ram, with more of a focus on response times than bandwith? Alternitively, what is the tightest timings/clock people have been able to get on vengence ram?

This is the set I use, actual 2 set, CMZ16GX3M4X1600C9G 4x4GB. I like that they're 1.35v @ DDR3-1600 which is easier on the SB-E.

If you have a Dual Channel MOBO then something like CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 or Mushkin 993995 or CAS 8 994043. Spending a lot of money for most folks on RAM is a waste, I test and code SQL. If money is no object the Corsair Dominator Platinum series.

Thanks. After reading the article closer I found that the vengence should be fine, and I should be able to tighten the timings based on the RAM's overclockability.
