Weird Benchmark Results for WD MyBook 1TB HDD

I was carrying out a benchmark test on my WD 1TB MyBook HDD a few days ago. The results for the test were very weird..

The hard-drive minimum and maximum speeds were hovering around the 25-30MBps range, then suddenly, there was a steep drop to near 1 MBps before it climbed back to the 25-30MBps range.

Can anyone tell me if there are any problems with my HDD based on this information?

My HDD is almost full...

I'm thinking of doing an error scan on it using HDTune but I'm not sure if I should go ahead. I think I bought the HDD in 2010.
