I just built my first gaming pc last week and I used an xfx r9 280x. Whenever I open a game the gpu starts to make this clicking noise, the same noise can be heard in this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVSqe11QJbY
The noise starts as soon as I start a game, even when it's at the menus. then when I alt+tab to the desktop the noise stops, and it starts again once I go back into the game.
This noise only occurs when I am in a game.
This card has been out for a couple of years so maybe someone has had this issue before and knows what is causing it and if it is normal.
I can't tell which fan it's coming from but the right fan seems less stable then the left fan, if that means anything, the right fan looks like it's shaking more while the left fan stays in place better
If it's just noise and it doesn't mean that there is something wrong with the gpu then I can live with it, but is it something that I should try an get a new card from xfx?

thanks in advance!!

Solution
Hello,

Typically a clicking sound like this is a bearing failing or the fan blade housing coming apart. We can send out a replacement fan free of charge. Please pm your xfxsupport.com ticket #to me, or PM me your shipping name and address. Thank you

I have a couple of questions
1. If I request an RMA with xfx which of these options will they give me:
a. I send my gpu to them and they send me a brand new one.
b. I send my gpu to them and they fix the problem and send me the same card back
c. The send me the necessary parts to replace myself?

2. Does this problem affect how well the card performs now and in the future, because if it is just the noise then I can live with it?

1. If you send it to us, we will likely repair it and ship it back since its a fan failure.

you can request a free set of replacement fans and repair it yourself (most common).

2. Its hard to say, some noise is cosmetic, but fans rubbing or ball bearings wearing down eventually leads to overheating and failure. its not something i would ignore.
