I built my own PC over a year ago, put in a few upgrades here and there but it is about the same. A while ago, like 6 months or so it started making a weird clicking sound. I thought something was bumping into something else, so I opened it up and couldn't find anything. The clicking comes and goes, every minute or so it'll click for a few seconds, like 2 or 3 then stop for a mintute. I thought it was the hard drive dying or something, so I let it go, and backed everything up just in case it died. Then all of a sudden one day the clicking stopped. I thought everything was fine, a few months go by, no sound, everything is fine, and a couple of days ago it started again I looked inside and I have no clue why! I cannot figure this out! I am out of ideas. what do you guys think it could be?

that's your hard drive! back up your important data to an external storage as soon as possible (as in now)

after that there are programs to check the hdd (checkdisk, hdtune) and see if you need a replacement

edit: it's possible for hdd s to make this sound intermittently depending on what data from it is accessed.
