Weird colour issues with my new monitor

Hello, recently I have purchased a new 1920 x 1080 monitor to replace a 1600 x 900 one and I have been experiencing some weird issues with how the colour display is.

My two monitors are:
BenQ GL2250H connected via VGA (using a DVI converter on the GPU which is a GTX 970)
Phillips 227E4LH connected via HDMI

The benQ monitor is a little washed out looking compared to the phillips one, and I have played around with the settings to try and make it look better but it still doesn't compare to the Phillips one, I understand that monitors look different so here is where the weird part comes into it, if I move the BenQ to the left and the phillips one infront of me, the BenQ one becomes the much better looking one, this is just physically moving the monitor, changing none of the connections. So I tried swapping the connections too, and the one of the left remains the better looking one.

So I swap them back with their new connections (benq now HDMI, phillips vga) and now the phillips is looking better because it's on the left. And this is a pretty big difference, I really don't feel like the lighting / shadows of my room are effecting it.

So I am a little stumped and figured I'd come here to ask, if anyone has any idea as to why the left monitor is looking better?

You shouldn't use HDMI connectors and DVI connectors at the same time, it's likely to give you some massive color difference- I'm having the same problem as you right now, just the other way round and with different monitors and different GPUs.

IMO, if your GPU has x2 of one port type, use both of those ports, it'll save you alot of time trying to figure out why your colors are bad.

Might be a good idea to always have two of the same monitor too, also saves time tweaking.

If you can't afford cables and monitors, just try and tweak it as much as you can. If you've got AMD GPUs, You can modify the color settings in CCC (more specifically the saturation, contrast and brightness) (HDMI). If you've got a Nvidia GPU, you can set the color...

If you've got a Nvidia GPU, you can set the color range to Full, and set the digital vibrance to somewhere around +70% (on HDMI)

The problem isn't your DVI/VGA, It's more likely to be your HDMI setup. HDMI is newer, but Nvidia and AMD drivers still seem to use the old DVI/VGA color settings on them.
