Question Weird display problem

Hi I bought a new PC and I'm using my old monitor that has vga cable and 1600x900 resolution.

I connected VGA to HDMI adapter to external GPU but when I start no display comes. If i switch to motherboard HDMI socket while PC is on, the display comes. And while display is on, if I switch to external GPU socket (HDMI ) I can get display too. It is very interesting problem but how to resolve it? I have to switch connection from motherboard to GPU all the time.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:

Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Might want to include the make and model or a link to the adapter you're working with. You mentioned using an external GPU, if you're working with a dock, please mention the make and model of the dock or a link to said dock as well as the laptop you've paired it with.
