Hey guys,

I just upgraded to a new Sapphire Radeon R9 380 and everything has been going relatively smoothly except for this really odd behavior I am seeing in the game "Soma" by Frictional games.

Essentially, I am getting some weird, small flashes of light that only last for a frame or two, and only in certain cases when there seem to be some special shaders applied (underwater in game). I watched some videos just to double check, and this is not intended behavior.

The issue occurs regardless of resolution, and I tried a different port, cable, and monitor. If you watch the video below, the flashing spots seem to occur beneath the menu overlay. I am running the latest drivers for the card, and have tried the game's current and beta client.

My current build:
MB: MSI P67A-G43 (B3)
HDD: PNY XLR8 240GB SSD
PSU: KINGWIN ABT-850MM
OS: Windows 10

Video of the issue:

So, I'm not sure what steps to take from here... I'm hesitant to say its a bad card because I haven't seen issues in any other games. Could it be a power issue? Simply a matter of waiting for updated drivers? Any help would be appreciated!

Does this only happen in this game? If so I would probably guess it is the game that causes these issues.

What you can try is driver sweeper.

1. Download it, uninstall your drivers as per normal
2. restart in safe mode (start menu) type MSCONFIG-boot tab-safe mode
3. run the cleaner and choose AMD
4. reinstall drivers.
There is also the AMD beta 15.9 and 15.9.1. Try those if the released 15.7.1 drivers cause problems.

Also another thing to try, is play around with the graphical settings in the game, if you disable one of the settings does this go away?

Also this game actually looks quite good, I might try it myself.

Post back your findings here 😉

Thanks for the advice! Tried a clean sweep with beta drivers, but no luck... same issue. I also did mess with every setting, resolution, and windowed/fullscreen and it doesn't seem to effect it. It always seems to occur with about the same consistency - its sporadic in nature, but no settings seem to effect its average frequency.

I just brought the game and Im downloading it now. I own the r9 290. Ill see if I get the same problem.

Most people I've seen have had no problems with this game however. Here's a few more things to try:
Go into AMD ccc. right click desktop and CCC. Go into AMD overdrive. Set your memory clock speed down 100mhz.
Now if this does nothing just set it back up 100mhz.

Although I would still point at a problem with the game itself, if you want, reinstall the game from scratch. Just keep a copy of your save. Or you may have to wait for frictional games to release a patch.

-good luck

edit: found some others on steam forums who have the same problems, apparently going back to an earlier version fixed someone else's game. I would recommend just waiting it out for now.
