[SOLVED] Weird grinding noise

I built my first PC over the summer about 7 months ago and my hard drive has been making a weird noise ever since. I have experienced no problems from the HDD and have run diagnostic tests that say everything is fine with the drive. I have opened the PC up several times trying to fix the issue and nothing seems to work. Any help in making the noise go away would be appreciated.

Some hard drives are louder than others, and, depending on how quiet your case fans are, and how close you sit to the computer in question, are you quite sure you are not hearing normal read/write/access sounds?

jordan409, was the sound present before when you built your system? A drive can fail at any time regardless. Always have a good back up plan in lace just in case.

Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose.
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example).
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.
