Hi, I was using my computer normally but then nothing responded all everything halted except for mouse movement. I quickly deduced this was the hdd as the hdd indicator was off few minutes later it's back on not flickering full on indicating a lot of activity. Then everything stops again hdd light off Skype call drops and pc temps (in tray) stop updating. It had done it at least 3 times so I turned off pc in fear of hard drive failure. I have booted into safe mode and everything there is fine. I am wondering what I should do, I am going to do a virus scan and malware bytes and a chkdsk. Am I being paranoid in thinking there could be a virus attempting to destroy my hdd? How should I go about solving this as I am scared to do a normal boot in case there is a virus which is manipulating files or something.

So in summary the hdd completely halts for a few mins then starts.
If you need any more info ask.

Thanks.

Also as this is in the pc I don't usually hear my hdd should I listen to it whilst this happens?

Hi there andrew89898,

After there is a possible HDD issue, I would suggest you to start with backing up the most important data that is stored on it.
Apart from that, I would also agree uplink-svk and say that it will be a good idea to run some HDD testing software in order to check out the HDD's health status. These hangs, could be caused by some bad sectors.

It could be disk failure, a corrupt software install (normally AV) or viruses/malware. It's kind of hard to tell you which it is, however if it's fine in safe mode, then it's probably either corrupt software or malware, good luck.
