Weird, low FPS in multiplayer games only.

Im using BF3 for test my new graphic card. Campaign mode works good 1080 + high presets, 60fps, also some multiplayer maps runs good 60fps when servers are empty. However if I enter to a full 32/64 server the FPS drops from 60fps to 45fps in many areas (even if there are no players on the screen), game turns choppy.
Also I tried BF Hardline beta, the performance is terrible, even when I get 60fps (in some areas only) feels choppy.

I read many times that 955 wont bottleneck the 270x,

Do you think that its the CPU, I repeat, playing solo game runs super smooth, the change is very drastic playing multiplayer. Its not my network, I have a wired fiber network and nice latency.

overclocking the cpu will help a lot . multplayer is very taxing to the cpu especially on crowded areas. playing on full servers though problem may persist even if you overclock. what was that ps 600w exactly? also stock cooler wont suffice for any higher mhz, you will need a better one!
upgrading to an fx cpu will also help, if possible!

OC did not help. Actually I have @3500 Mhz (auto oc by mobo) and I dont see any improve. I have stock cooler, 62º maximum temp. I tried @3800 Mhz but It did not help too much.
Power Supply is cheap one $45, its sold in my country only, I cant find any english website. Its called innobo 600w.

Im in the fence, upgrade to a fx 8320, return the card, or deal with it. Other games runs much better, MoH Warfighter, same engine, it runs very good also in mp.

Strange, overclocking to 3.8GHz should have made a very noticeable difference. Was there literally no change at all, or just a minor change? It would help if you could test at 3.2GHz and 3.8GHz in a similar gameplay scenario and see how much the framerates change.

I can't find any detailed specifications on the Innobo 600W, so I have no idea if it's reliable and how its power delivery is divided up.

I did new tests in "operation firestorm" (on the montain, looking the action area) BF3, high presets, 1080, vsync on:

@3800 empty server = 60fps
@3800 full server = 44fps

@3200 empty server=55fps
@3200 full server = 35fps

When I did not look to the action area I had 60fps even in a full server.



PS is good because on empty servers I have no problems .
Definitely there is some improve, I did not notice the improve before because I did the tests on small maps, just trying to get the 60fps which I have on empty servers. (sorry my english)

@dkulprit, my internet is very good, 120MB (13MB/s), fiber, wired, nice ping.

Okay, that's about expected performance increase... seems like you may need a more beefy CPU. FX-6300 is the most cost-effective option... if you can afford it then an 8320 or 8350 would be awesome.

Before that, here are a couple things to try:

- Turn off V-Sync, and in the BF3 console (~) type GameTime MaxVariableFPS 60... if 60 gives you some stuttering or tearing, try with 59 or 59.94
- Open task manager and set Battlefield 3 to high CPU priority

Let me know if these improve performance any.

dont forget, at 62c your cpu it may actually throttling. 61c is the maximum safe temp under load. stock cooler isnt enough.overclocking requires an aftermarket one.practically you need temps below 60c to be sure. also upgrading to a quality psu is recommended.

sorry for not answering. @Heibson: I give up before to try that. I was reading many experiences over internet and pretty much the problem is that mp needs a good cpu. Those 270x benchmarks of BF, Skyrim etc are using a good intel cpu. Phenom II x4 is not that good, even overlocked. People who say that it wont bottleneck the 270x are wrong. Simply, and that is all.

Hopefully I can sell my old rig and get an fx8320 (which its not the best for gaming but must to help)

If you haven't sold the computer yet it's worth giving my suggestions a try. V-Sync can really hurt framerates unless it's Adaptive V-Sync, and setting high CPU priority also helps when the CPU is getting maxed by putting background tasks at a lower priority.

Also try going Control Panel -> System -> Advanced system settings -> Advanced -> Performance settings -> Advanced -> Adjust for best performance of: Programs

It's also important to keep your CPU below 62C as chris987 pointed out or else the CPU will throttle to a lower speed. If your chip is hitting 62C then it'll drop to a low speed until temps are back within safe operating range.
