I got a i7 8700 with a msi z370 sli plus mobo, an intel optane and 2x 8gb ram sticks. after a couple hours of installing and using the new setup i have been getting this weird clicking noise in repetitions every few hours.
I made a recording of this noise using my cellphone. Its low quality and i held the phone next to the fans so there is some background noise but the click is loud enough that it can be heard clearly. I uploaded the file to soundcloud because i couldn't find a way to attach files here. Can someone please check it out and let me know what it might be, or how i can figure out where to start looking for the error.

Sounds like a spinning platter magnetic hard drive where the read/write armature is having issues.

Do you have any non SSD hard disk drives attached?

If you do, an easy test would be to disconnect power and data to them and see if the noise stops. If it does, you know where the problem is.

i am doing that atm, i have 2 extra hdds and one of them was not screwed in properly. i screwed it in and kept it unplugged for around 2 hours. No sounds in this time. I just plugged it in again now and running the pc again. Going to see if the noise returns in an hour or so.
