Weird power supply noise problem

My 650W Silverstone ST65F-G Strider PSU has always made a buzzing/hissing sound since I got it but it only makes the noise once windows has started and does not occur while in the bios. What's weird is that I've noticed that it goes away when I play a game, not sure if any game does this or just intensive games, but I noticed that the noise disappears when I play the witcher 2, dolphin emulator or assassin's creed 4 etc. Really confused about what the problem is and if I have a faulty power supply or not, the sound is really irritating since I have the pc nearby. I made a video demonstrating it although not sure if you guys will be able to hear it due to background noise and noise from fans etc.

I feel like just leaving a game running windowed in the background at all times in order to work in peace. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what the problem is and whether it is serious or not.

That sound is called ''coil whine". It is caused by a manufacturing defect. The best you can do is, if the unit is still under warranty, to return it to get a new one.

It happens sometimes. You just got a bad unit.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it might be coil whine, but would that still explain the fact that it goes away when I start playing a game?

Well, you can always get a new psu that is the same and check what it's supposed to sound like.
There could be a certain part of psu that is active when doing/not doing certain apps.

Silverstone have a lot of coil whines issues with their power supplies. I suggest that, if you buy a new power supply, to pick one from a trusted brand like Seasonic, XFX or Corsair (except for the CX Series).

I sent a support email to scan.co.uk but I wonder if they will replace/refund me or not, because when they test it to check the coil whine fault they might just listen to it while it is in the bios instead of testing it while it's booted into windows where the noise is constant and a real problem.
EDIT: Thanks Oleonius, if they refund me I'll see however I chose this particular psu as it is small and my case is the mini itx node 304 and it has problems if you use a larger power supply. If they do refund me I'll see if there is a better alternative for my case.
