Weird problem when adding ram to computer

I bought an Acer Aspire 5720Z a few years ago. It came with Vista and a 250 gig HD and 1X1 2 meg ram. I upgraded last year to a 500 gig HD and Win 7 32 bit. Now I bought 2X2 meg ram and when I installed it the Bios recognised it but windows wont load. It says there is a software or hardware change and wants to try to fix it, but can't. I put the old ram back and everything functions normally. What could be wrong.

Solution
Update the bios don't help. The BIOS selects candidate boot devices using information collected by POST (Power-on self-test), and your MB only support 2GB RAM. So you can see the 4GB RAM in the BIOS, but it don't mean the PC can boot, that why you get the message "a software or hardware change and wants to try to fix it".

That is strange because the bios sees 4 gig ram. Does the bios need to be updated to allow windows to load?

OK now I understand. Thank you.

Staples has an Acer 8 gig/750 gig core i3 touch screen/win 8 for $699. Maybe that's next.
