-Weird Question- "Puffin Explorer on IOS gets me 9MBPS while my on my PC and Laptop I only get 1.5 MBPS!"

I recently decided to use Puffin web browser for ios to download a 2 gb file of of MEGA Share, I was surprised to see it going at speeds I have never even dreamed of getting (9MBps). I then decided to see what I would get downloading the same file off of my PC and Laptop. I found that downloading the same file I only got 1-2 MBps on the same file on the same network on two devices. It is good to note that I only pay for 15MBps, and usually get 1MBps on average. And so I was wondering how is it possible that I get such good download speed on my Ipad on puffin, but don't get that same speed on my two other computers? Also is it possible to get the puffin download speeds to my PC so I get 9MBps?

You have to be very careful everything is using the same terminogly. Many people and even software confuses the MB and mb which is generally why it is best spelled out.

Most network connection speeds are always quoted in megabit. Most file transfers are quoted in megabyte and it is almost exactly a 8 to 1 difference ignoring some of the protocol overhead.

Since most ISP quote megabit the 15 you get from the ISP would be megabits. This would correspond to somewhere between 1 and 2 megabytes of download speed.

I would be suspect of the 9mbyte number it is the same as a 72mbit internet connection and connections that fast are not very common.

I know this, but my question is a bit different, I am wondering why I get 9 Mega bytes per second on my ipad on puffin and do not get this speed (on the exact same file on the exact same website MEGA) on my PC and laptop, and how I can get it.

If you know this then you know that 9 mega byte is 72 megabit which is almost 5 times what you pay your ISP for.

All your other results conform to what would be expected on a 15 megabit ISP connection.

Maybe puffin just paid the ISP more money to make it run faster. It is much more likely the displayed valid is invalid.

Ok, but what I don't understand is, how is it possible that puffin downloaded the file ALMOST instantly (which proves it doesn't display a fake speed on Mega share, and the file took half an hour more on my PC?

That is my speed test. Again not trying to argue, but how can puffin report a fake speed when, I download a 2gb file instantly with that connection, which would have taken allot more time to download on my PC. SO its not really fake considering I downloaded it so fast the speed was real.

No obviously im getting what im paying for. What I suspect is that somehow puffin is managing to get higher speeds because of something. Again its not really what it is reporting it is what it is getting.

Example
2GB File on mega share

-PC and Laptop: 10-15 Min
-Ipad w/puffin: 1-2 Min

My point is that its not really what puffin is reporting because I downloaded the same file and puffin took one minute to download it while my PC a lot more time.

Now I see what you mean that Puffin is likely reporting something wrong, but I still download files extremely fast, so its not just a fake number it actually improves my speed.

I would be extremely interest in how you would ever get 352Mbit....especially if your router only has 100mbit interfaces.

This is beyond crazy to even think your ISP would give you a 350m internet connection when you only pay for 15m.

The only way to be sure would be to get data from some device in the path. Some router will report the speed they transfer but generally you need third party firmware on the router.

As to why it does that you would have to get a expert in that application.

Any other suggestions, as to what I can do to get it to somehow get this to my PC? Because this somehow works, as I said I get 9-10 -MEGA BYTES- not Mega bits.

Puffin may be doing some extremely aggressive caching. Did you by chance attempt to download that 2GB file more than once? I highly doubt that your iPad is getting 350Mb/s over wifi.

Contact your ISP then and see if they have someone there that can explain what is going on. It should not be downloading at that high of a speed if your connection is not that fast.
