I have Norton SystemWorks2001 and while browsing through my hard drive I noticed that there is a Recycle Bin under the hidden system folder c:\recycler that is 1.8GB in size. I really would like to delete this excess crap off my computer but I dont want to screw up Windows by doing it. Does anyone know if deleting this Recycle Bin is alright? There are two listed, one being only 22MB and the other being 1.8GB.

The hidden system c:\recycler IS the recycle bin, and the files in there should match the ones viewed through the gui. If you delete it, it'll come back (without the files.)

i think your wrong, because inside the c:\recycler folder are two seperate actual Recycle Bins, not files. I am pretty sure Win2k uses multiple recycle bins for the many profiles, but if you are saying it will just come back then I guess I should be safe. Can you think of any way I can protect myself in case it screws up?

My bad! My mind was still stuck in the win9x forum. Yes, in 2000 the recycler directory can contain multiple recycle bins. Each bin is associated with the SID of the user it belongs to. You can use user2sid/sid2user to find out who they belong to.

As to your question, make a backup!

i remembered that this recycle bin was from an emergency restore Win2k tried to do when my overclocking went bad so I just deleted the sucker and reclaimed my 2gigs of hard drive space
