I recently bought 2x GTX 560 Ti's, and I've been having major issues.

Both 560 ti's work individually and they work in SLI but ONLY with the 460 running along side them. When the 460 is removed the system hangs at the first motherboard boot screen, and the error code on the motherboard is a "0D", the manual gives no information about this code, just says "Reserved for future AMI SEC error codes ". I have tried every possible way of swapping the cards and nothing will get the two 560's running without the 460. I have the latest BIOS and nvidia drivers as well

System Specs

Operating System: MS Windows 7 64-bit SP1

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.0GHz

RAM: 8.00 GB (2x4gb) Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (9-9-9-24)

Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme4

Graphics:
1024MB GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Gigabyte) 30 °C
1024MB GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Gigabyte) 33 °C
1024MB GeForce GTX 460 (Gigabyte) 31 °C

Hard Drives:
2x Crucial M4 64GB RAID 0
2x Western Digital 640GB RAID 0
500GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AACS-00ZUB0

PSU:
Corsair 1200AX

What does Gigabyte tech support say ?

I expect ya may be getting some weirdness from having the 460 in a x4 slot

Try:

1. Uninstalling the drivers, reboot, shut down
2. Remove the 460 ... make sure the two 560;s in the x8 slots
3. Boot and don't let windows do any driver installs.
4. Install latest nVidia drivers.

it really depends what the target resolution is as to whether there is any tangible benefit from x16 and x16 over say x4 & x4 or x8 & x8

now bear in mind the below test is gtx 480 SLI but the benefits are only really apparent at 5760x1200, if your target is 1920x1080 I wouldnt stress about the motherboard yet

The issue is the motherboard hangs, nothing to do with drivers. I've always run the 560s in the 8x slots.

Normal boot sequence is as follows:
1. ASRock mobo post screen
2. RAID startup
3. 2nd ASRock mobo screen
4. Windows startup

When it wont boot it hangs at #1

I would prefer to sell the 460 and make some money since I don't play many games with Physx. That also gives the bottom 560 better cooling.

I guess what I want to know is, should I get a replacement mobo under warranty? Because in my opinion a motherboard should be capable of running just two cards and not requiring 3 cards.
Or does anyone know of any tricks i could try to try and get my rig running with just the two 560's?

Some more digging in the motherboard manual, it says there is an SLI power connector, I've tried it with and without the extra molex power connector plugged into the motherboard. I'm currently running 3 cards without it just to keep the inside tidy, and no issues as long as that 3rd card is in the system.
