Weirdest USB Port Problem

Not sure is this is the right thread for this, I'm new here. But anyways I have some kind of usb problem. One day they just stopped working. No devices I plug in are recognized. I've tried every fix out there already don't worry. In the device manager it says everything is fine and the drivers are updated. So that means the ports would't be dead right. I have a HP laptop windows 8 and no ports will recognize any device. I can't find anything on this. They don't show up in the disk management either. It's like they aren't plugged in at all. Under my USB controllers in device manager it has the 3.0 extensible controller and the root hub. Anyone have any ideas what could possibly be wrong

So these usb devices you plug in do not show up in device manager correct?
Plug in an optical mouse and see if it 'lights up'. if not then you likely have a blown fuse or tripped breaker on the usb 5v power line.
IF you have a breaker, those can often get reset by shutting down, removing power and battery, pressing the power button in for a minute. letting it sit for 5 minutes (in case its the breaker that gets reset by time) and then reassembling and powering on.

That's correct, I have plugged in a mouse and it doesn't light up, will try your solution and post back the results

Did you install any 3rd party backup programs like an Acronis program?

Because when you install some of them when they install drivers, their entries end up in the lower/upper class filters entries in the registry

They can override the driver the USB ports use. Result dead ports

I would uninstall Mcafee its rubbish then use their removal tool. Its a known cause of crashes

Wouldnt be surprised if this is causing something

Update: I've plugged in a thumb drive with a light and the light is on but still not showing up anywhere

Just did still nothing, my firewall is off could that be affecting it

Also go to the details tab under the usb entries Look for upper/lower class entries. What do they say

The USB entries in device manager. Dbl click on each one. Go to details tab..
