I have a GA-7N400L motherboard...

On it I have (or should I say "had") 2 sticks of 512mb in slots 1 and
3, which enables dual data mode - OK..!!!

Now,, about 4 months ago my PC started playing up and crashing and
rebooting bigtime, first in games then on the net and then it simply
refused to even boot up. It took me a long time to find what the
problem was as this all happened over about a 6 to 8 week period,,
BUT,, I eventually wound up taking out the RAM stick from slot 3 and
Hey Presto all went well again. I took it back they the guys at the
shop said that sometimes memory does go bad, and they were happy to
replace it...

So I put it the other new stick into slot 3... Voila,, Dual Data mode
enabled again... All was sweet...

Like Hell..!!!!

2 weeks ago the same thing happened again - games locking up and
crashing/rebooting etc etc...

I knew straight away what the problem was and I simply reached into PC
and took out what I thought was the memory stick from slot 3. I simply
groped around, felt the mem stick and yanked it out.. Yes,, it goes
well again...

Strange that, though... What is it with slot 3..???

It aint over yet...!!!

Well just this morning, I fitted a new DvD unit and I thought I would
give the insides of the PC a cleaning out... I was shocked to see that
in actual fact I had accidentally taken out the mem stick from slot 1
this time and the remaining stick was still in slot 3 and yet the PC
seems to go well...

I changed it over to slot 1, fired it up and it seems to go well. As I
type right now, I have had it running for a little more than 10
minutes and I am stumped over this whole affair...

I might phone the PC shop and ask for their advice and tell them they
will have another stick of RAM to replace the next time I am over
their way...

Strange....!!!!!

Hi Bruce,

Try downloading WINDIAG from the Microsoft site and see what it says about
your two memory modules one at a time. Run the extended test for a good long
while.
