I see the political wars are back on this news group. Once again the
majority of the hobby, and the rest of the world will be bored and
turned off as several individuals work out their anger from a safe
distance, and with the ability to insult and savage one another without
consequence.

Like we care.

Anyway to stay on course, i.e., talking about the hobby and related
interests?

Hey does not show up on my system. I think it may be because I kill-file
those who indulge in such debates. Well it works for me.

So far, it's been reasonably civil (at least in comparison to past rounds).
I think I counted 9 whole posts -- no more than your intellectual property
discussion with that MJB twerp.

I think we can be forgiven for a few off-topic posts in the wake of a
presidential election. If we're still hashing it out two weeks from now, on
the other hand...

Yes. Does anyone know where I can get 28mm NFL football player miniatures?

A few years ago I went on a similar quest and actually discovered some
US Football player figures. For the life of me I can't recall where I
found them, reason being they were quite crude. I had wanted them for a
diorama and they were so rudimentary that, for me, they weren't worth
all the time and effort I went through trying to find them. So I guess
the answer is, if you're looking for very basic figures there were
indeed some out there in the past.

Hope that's of some help. If I remember where I found them I'll post
again.

If you're willing to step down in size I believe there are some half
way decent HO US football figures. Of course, if you're willing to
switch to soccer...sorry, European football...there are some lovely
Preiser HO figures.

Just kill-file the usual suspects and the drivel just disappears.

Don't read the posts, or kill the threads you don't like. Personally I
tend to ignore anything about Napoleonics, because I don't like the
subject; the fact that other people are discussing it has no effect
whatever on me. I find the political stuff quite interesting, especially
early on in a discussion when there is still new data being introduced.
What does baffle me is why people get so hot under the collar about it.

Seems like. Definately the first time in weeks I've seen more than a dozen
posts in 48 hours.

Because . . . when it spirals out of control -- as too often happens, it
discourages others from participating in the group or even sticking
around.

Frankly, Ty wrote one of his best posts ever in the last politial debate
-- too bad it was the wrong place.

But the Ty / Marty garbage is something we could all do without -- a
little civility goes a long way folks.

Mike -

Civility is only considered to be weakness by some of these people. And
politeness is considered as an invitation to continue with the political BS
that has NO business on a NG devoted to playing games with little metal men.
Ty was kill-filed months ago and I pretty much avoided all his and Bob
Jone's nonsense - but he posted from an email address that escaped my
filters and he addressed my discussion directly. So I responded directly -
then put him back into my kill-file afterwards rather than become drawn into
any further conversation.

The veracity of Ty's posts are of no consequence to me when he waxes long on
the political situation facing the USA. If he just discussed playing games
with little metal men, there would be no issue. But he and others troll
this newsgroup trying to stir-up trouble and I simply want NO part of it.
And when I kill-file a troll, I don't do it quietly - I want the troll to
know I will have no further business with him. Sorry if you consider that
my practice of a public plonking to be 'garbage' - but considering what a
vindictive, aggressive SOB I can become when riled-up - I do what suits me
best and not anyone else.

Happily, everyone has a different definition of "quality."

But this is simply a re-statement of the claim, not an answer to my
question which was - why? Why does the fact that some people are arguing
politics on a particular thread discourage people from sticking around?
How does it in any way interfere with what they want to do? - discuss
the colour of the facing on Napoleonic uniforms, for example.

If it had been in the "right place" - by which I assume you mean a
political newsgroup - none of us would have seen it. Those groups are
inhabited by a large number of obsessive extremists who make Ty and Sam
look like Commies or Bob and myself like fundamentalist conservatives.
Positions are long-established and dug in, and all you ever see is the
same abuse flung across no man's land. The other point is that people
here have a life outside the political arguments, and indeed have often
had friendly discussions on other topics - and I am myself a customer of
Ty's, though he does not apply the maxim that his customer is always in
the right. It is far more interesting arguing with someone whom you know
as more than simply a generic lefty or righty. It is even possible that
we might change somebody's mind - you never know.

Actually, I do apply that maxim in matters of commerce, though not politics.
I have always attempted to provide a good product and good service and have
had very few complaints. The few that I did have were simple errors on my
part that were immediately corrected.

Whatever Ty is, he is not a troll - he posts what he does because he
believes it to be true.

Hardly an argument likely to persuade other people to change their
behaviour to suit you rather then themselves, I would have said.

Irrationality is MJB's shtick. He's blown up at me and KFed me close to
four times now. One minute I'm having a reasonable conversation and then
he's frothing at the mouth (keyboard) because of some imagined slight.
It's odd because there are plenty of people I have actually insulted who
would be justified in behaving like that but MJB isn't one of them.

Shadowforge does female fantasy football players. Heresy has a coach mini.
