I just reinstalled windows 2000 on my dad's computer. Whenever he puts a floppy in, the computer seems to remember the content of the first floppy. When I put another floppy in, the content of the first floppy shows up. I tried hitting refresh a few times, and it doesn't seem to help.

Anyone know what is going on? Its really frustrating.

Thanks

Open the box.
Check the connections on both ends of the signal ribbon cable from the motherboard to the floppy drive. Make sure that the connections are tight. Carefully reseat them, but don't change anything.

I had the same problem with my first install of W2K just with my DVD, not the floppy drive! I just selected eject" from the "Windows Explorer" and the problem was gone. I don't know how to do it on a floppy drive! Maybe you could try takin out the floppy disc and pushing "f5" for update or selecting the drive without a disc and let windows discover that there is no disc in the drive!

<== StarCraft is not just another computer game==>

Probably your're right, it seems like the problem appeared just after Win2K install.
I'm just guessing, have never had that problem on software level and never with Win2K, at all.
But did many fixes the way I suggested.
Thank you, I learn very interesting thing from you.

I took the IDE cables out and put them back in properly. But the stuipd windows still "remembers" the content of the floppy drive! Even when I take the disk out of the floppy drive, and hit Ctrl + R as many time as I want to, the stuipd thing still remembers the content. The only way I can get the computer to discover that there's no disk in the drive is by using format or copy disk command. This is extremely annoying. DOes anyone have a cure to this? :)

THanks

Sparks

Have you gone to technet and searched their knowledge base?

What is the difference between <font color=red>pink</font color=red>and <font color=purple>purple</font color=purple>? The <b>GRIP</b>!

RE sparks219:
For me it still looks like a hardware problem.
The FDD contrtoller is also a possibility.
You don't have any conflicting devices, do you?

Try simple things:

1- delete the floppy from the devices and reinstall.

2- try another connector on the ribbon cable, but change on B: in the BIOS and see.

3- replace the FDD or the cable, or both with proved working ones and see.
