western digital 500gb my passport essential not showing

My western digital 500gb my passport essential is not showing anywhere. I checked my Disk Manager and it wasn't there. Cant see any affect accept lights turning on.

I also tried it on two computer to the same affect.
any help would be great!

Do you hear any activity from the drive? I have one of these drives, and it starts right up when connected. Most likely the drive has suffered a mechanical failure.

There is activity in the drive. so sounds like its not mechanical.

I would try it in a 3rd computer. Also, make sure the USB port is working by plugging in a flash drive that is known to be functioning.

Do you see the device in the BIOS or the Device Manager?
If you see it in Device Manager, check out whether it is initialized or properly partitioned. Also you can test it with the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see whether it will pass the tests.

Just realized it makes a beeping sound when you first plug it in. Guess it's time to return it.

Mine does not beep when it is first plugged in. Agree with returning the drive.

It sounds like it is failing. Try to replace it with a new one.
