Western Digital Caviar Versions???

So I was supposed to get the western digital blue hard drive at pcpartpicker, then I suddenly notice that there is a caviar version of the drive. So the question is.....what is the difference of the caviar version to the regular version of the drives??? Is it in performance??? Or only the cost??

The 'Caviar' version is how some WD HDDs (like the Black, Green and Blue) used be called.
I'd recommend you check WD Blue's official product page for more details on the product itself. Under Specifications, you will find all current models and capacities.
Here's the support page of all internal drives, where you can read more about any other WD Legacy product as well.
I recommend always checking your warranty status when buying a new hardware. This is the surest way to determine its authenticity.

There are various different models in each color category, the Black is what they refer to as their higher end, the blue carries (generally) the same specs 7200, 64GB cache (depending on drive size) and are pretty much the same thing. Then you get into the Green (generally lower RPM, Red for NAS, etc

Take a look at the specifications for the regular Blue drive and the Caviar Blue version you're looking at. Chances are the differences will lie in either the RPM, the cache size, or the SATA type, or more than one of the above. But to muddy things further, there may be more than one Blue or Caviar Blue model of the same capacity, each with different specifications.

Just as an example, this Blue and Caviar Blue model are both 1 TB, both SATA 6GB/s and both have a 64mb cache, but the Blue is 5400 RPM and the Caviar Blue is 7200 RPM (and therefore, of those two drives, probably the one you'd want.)

But, if you look through the drives in PCPartPicker, there's another Caviar Blue 1TB available which has only 32MB cache, but for some reason is more expensive than this one! Confusing!
