Western Digital Hard disk problem

My drive just stopped working a couple of days ago. This also happened a couple of months ago and after a couple of weeks it "came right".

The problem arises at boot time when the BIOS checks things. After the memory check the system "hangs" for approx 30 seconds or so and then the disk controller appears to post it's presence. The disk does not boot however. The message I get is (I have two drives):

Primary Master: 10.09K11 WDC WD205AA-00BAA0
UltraDMA Mode-2 S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status OK

Primary Slave: 0.62 ST31720A
S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status OK

Primary Master HDD Error
Run SETUP
Press F1 to Resume

When I reboot and go into the BIOS and try to autodetect, a similar thing happens, with a significant period of time for detection and then it comes up with the expected parameters for the drive. But the disk does not come up.

Also, with this drive on the IDE bus with another OK drive it appears to stop the other disk from coming up too.

My Motherboard is a TX531 and the BIOS is an AMIBIOS.

Any ideas on this much appreciated.
