I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Book external drive.
🙁 Can you open Disk Management and see how the drive is recognized there? I'd recommend you to try changing the USB cable that you connect the drive with, since swapping between different systems and ports hasn't worked out. I'd also suggest you to try updating the firmware of the drive from the listed downloads for your model here:

I guess it won't hurt try testing the drive's health and SMART status by running the quick and extended tests from the Data LifeGuard Diagnostic utility here:
