I just purchased a brand new 6TB red drive and I ran both the Western Digital LifeGuard Diagnostics test and Hd Tune Pro 5.50 on it and have been getting some odd results. On the WD utility for the quick test I have gotten numerous returns for the following error code.
"Test Result: FAIL
Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 5 did not complete! Status code = 03 (Fatal or unknown error), Failure Checkpoint = 98 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 5! "
But when the Extended Test is run I get a clean result.
Capacity: 6001.18 GB
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: PASS
On the HD Tune Pro 5.50 Software basically the same thing happens when I run the different tests. Under the the Error Test function the quick test runs through green boxes all the way up until the last block where it stays gray but the test has finished as if a new test could then be initiated/run. It is not green or red but the gray "untested" block. Under the extended test all the blocks were green including the final one, no red marked error sections.
I have also run the built in windows Error checking feature under properties/tools but returned no errors as well.
So my question is as follows: should I be better safe then sorry and just return this disk and get a different disk that is 100% clean or is this error something to be ignored or a quirk of the disk/nas ware 3.0? In regards to these tests I have run them in a random rotation for multiple days to ensure I was getting proper stress on the disk and proper results from the test.
Thanks for all your help and advice community!
