I recently purchased a wd caviar black from Amazon.com with the seller being western digital. I got the drive today and went to check up on the warranty on wd website and it stated that my product is out of region? I live in Canada am I not eligible for warranty on this product?

For a warranty claim you have to contact WDC to get an RMA number anyway. They will tell you whether or not an RMA number will be issued to you. They will also check the drive's serial number to determine where the warranty region is. They will also tell you where to ship it to.

I contacted wd and got some good news

"As I mentioned before the out of region status of the drive will not affect the warranty of the drive at all, that only stands that the drive was supposed to be commercialized in the United States"

Do you have to send the drive back to the US or will WDC Canada handle the warranty claim?

Hey there, hellzscream!

Good job on getting in touch directly with our technical support! I'd also recommend you register on our website in the WD Support Portal, where you can register your WD products or even create an RMA online. In case of any confusion, I'd suggest to check our warranty services policy as well.

This was there response "If by any chance you need to claim the warranty of the drive, you will need to send the drive to a Canadian address."

That's definitely good to know. I have RMA'ed once before with the RMA handler in Toronto.
