Just select 'single player' on the main menu if you want bots, or
better, play on a server. Often, people will join in when they see that
someone is playing. I check the server list several times a day,
looking for n00bs i can pwn.
There are people playing wq3 every day. Most fun deathmatch game I
know. The servers are listed here, with statistics showing the
activity: http://bootblock.de/wq3. Just keep that page open, and join
when you see people on a server. wq3 has unlag code, so it doesn't have
to be a server close to you, either.
You can also team up with some friends to play bank robbery, br_durango
and br_cobber are small maps that can be played with 2-3 ppl on each
team. But you need to find a server with callvote enabled, so you can
get the right maps.
The main site (westernquake3.com), isn't being maintained anymore, but
the mod's files are still being hosted there. The current activity is
at this forum: http://ici.planet-multiplayer.de/phpbb2/index.php. A new
map (wq_town) has just been released, another one is in the works. The
source code for the mod is open, if you want to look or contribute.
I play wq3 under the name of 'PiKK'. Looking forward to pwn you
