What up? i just bough a new PIIIEB 1 Ghz chip with a new Asus CUSL-2 mobo. I also purchased 256 megs of PC133 RAM from the same place I purchased the other components. Here is my problem. I'm running Win2K and I cannot boot into the system if my mobo speeds are set to 133/133/33. It gets to the Win2K splash screen then it dies and restarts. I can boot up though if I have the speeds on my mobo set to 133/100/33. Another thing is at this setting of the CPU running at 133, the SDRAM running 100, when I shutdown my computer and try to come back and turn it on, the system hangs and sends the processor into safe mode. I have go into the BIOS and set the speeds again. This is really frickin' irritating since I just spent $700 on this upgrade. I was wondering if anyone has every heard of this, or if they think it sounds like a RAM issue, 'cause that's what it sounds like to me. Any help is appreciated. Thanx.
I have the latest update for the BIOS on my motherboard and it tells what my RAM is capable of and what my RAM is actually running at. It can run at 133, but it is kicked down to 100. It might possibly be some bad RAM the only way I could find out is to see if I can get a hold of some more 133 RAM and see if it can boot past the splash screen.
Crashman, you are the man. That setting totally shed new light on my issue. When I changed it to Cas3 it booted into Win2K. But my desktop looked a littled fuzzled, and when I tried to open programs such IE, Outlook Express, or Half-Life, my PC took a crap on me. Then when I lowered back down to Cas2 at PC100, everything looked and ran fine. This I think is definite proof that I either have defective or mislabeled PC133 RAM. Thanks for the suggestion.

I found out that the memory I had was Hyundai memory. I went to a local shop and they had Micron memory, we did a swap, and the machine ran flawlessly at max settings. So this was just a case of some either defective memory or mislabeled. I gues the old addage is right especially when it comes to memory. "You get what you pay for" Thanks for the responses, I am now happy that I have my Gig machine running at full potential now.

You think it's at it's max potential? Try clocking it up to 1.2GHZ! You'll have to increase the voltage slightly to try that. Just make sure it stays cool and you'll be OK. And with a chip that expensive I would not go over 1.85v for continuous use as I would take absolutely NO chances with logevity!
