What’s the best proccesssor under £280

Solution
Sub £200 ryzen 1600 or i5 8400.

Over £200 the i5 8600k & an aftermarket cooler (because it doesnt come with one).

With a 3gb 1060 & a 60htz monitor you're not really going to see a massive difference between them.

Pointless going out of your way to spend the full £280 when it will gain you essentially nothing imo.

Saving is better spent elsewhere in your system, would get you an ssd or 16gb rather than 8gb ram if you hadnt already budgeted for those

I don’t have anything just a graphics card

I have a 144hz monitor

What parts do you already have? So, far you just list the GPU.

If you still need everything else. I'd advise against setting an arbitrary budget for just the CPU. Rather give us your full budget and all the components you need. Then you can get more informed answers.

Without knowing anything else about your plans. I'd say the Core i7-8700 is the best at £280. With good cooling it can do a 4.3Ghz Turbo boost on 6-cores and up to 4.6Ghz on one core. The Core i7-8600K is second best and can be overclocked.

If you factor in overclocking it becomes more difficult to decide. Overall with a heavy overclock the 8600K will do better with most games. A few heavily multi-threaded games will do better on the 8700.

If you are overclocking. I'd probably go with the 8600K. Spending the price difference on a decent CPU cooler and higher quality motherboard.

still the same answer, paired with a 1060 3gb virtually no difference.
Any game that a 1060 3gb could push a full 144fps so could the ryzen & the 8400 (epsports stuff like csgo etc)
Any newer AAA titles are going to be limited by the 1060 to the 80-90fps range, both the ryzen & i5 are fairly capable of 100fps +.

On your other thread youve stated you're not ready to buy yet ??
In which case (as Ive said on there) ryzen + will be here then & you may see a 6core/12 threaded chip with a close to 4ghz base clock.
