Question What all do I need to do when switching from nvidia to amd?

I am upgrading from an evga 1060 6gb to an msi 6800xt. What do I need to do prior to switching? Do I need to download any software or anything to do the infinity fabric thing?

Run DDU on your platform, remove all GPU drivers, power down the system, disconnect from the wall and display, then remove the Nvidia discrete GPU from the build, drop in AMD card, reconnect and power up, then manually install the latest AMD drivers sourced off of AMD's support site, in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

At the minimum at least:

• Download the drivers for the AMD card
• Disconnect the computer from the internet
• Uninstall all of NVIDIA drivers from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. If it asks you to restart the computer, do so.
• Swap the cards
• Install the drivers for the AMD card. Also if it asks you to restart the computer, do so.
• Reconnect the computer to the internet.
