Hey guys!
Just a quick question, got an xfx ts 430w psu.
Dont have the includewd original power chord that came with it (Im in the UK)
I could use the one that came with my evga 650 g2, which has a 13 amp fuse in it, will that be fine?
Or should I use a 3 or 5 amp fuse?

Solution
Amps x voltage = wattage mate
That's in any type of electronics not just mains circuits
So for 240v mains
3a = 3x240 =720w max
5a = 5x240 = 1200w max
13a = 13x240 = 3120 w max

There's some leeway & UK mains sockets are rated at upto 3.6kw each absolute maximum to allow for fluctuation.
Damage it ?
No , the fuse in UK plugs is an extra safety measure only.

The issue is EVERYTHING comes with a 13a fuse fitted nowadays for some strange reason .

Only kettles, irons, toasters , heaters need a 13a fuse (virtually anything thats sole purpose is to heat things up) because they're capable of drawing in excess of 2000w.

A 430w PSU can draw maybe 500w max.
A 3amp fuse allows for 720w draw - its still overrated for that PSU.
They're like 99p from b&q for a pack of 20, just change it when you get chance.

^ kind on unnecessary in the us because you're on 110-120v

In the UK its 240v & you can pull 7.2kw from a twin wall socket .

I think the fuses are from a bygone era when mains power could be slightly unstable & you didn't have RCD & automatic trips in fuse boxes.

They could have been phased out long long ago.

I forgot to say if you use a surge protecter the fuses become less relevant anyway.

Essentially only a surge or spike will blow a plug fuse.

That said travelling areas around Europe with socket adapters in countries with less stable mains power , the UK fuses have saved a fair few electronic items from certain death.

Ah, now I understand why as you say things like kettles and heating stuff use 13 amp fuses.
So technically I would even only need a 3a for my 650 g2.

Sorry for all of these questions mate as well. But what are the wattage ratings for 5 and 13 amp fuses as well? Just curious.
