I've heard these mentioned heaps and how AMD GPU's don't go to 2d for some reason or rather. I just want to know what they are.

Thanks

2D is your desktop, and most business software. The video card just idles to draw these screens. A lot of video cards will run at 135Mhz doing 2D work.

3D is 3D games, things that are fully graphical and where the GPU has to actually do some serious work to generate the hundreds of thousands of pixels 60 times a second to produce the illusion of motion on the screen. Most video cards today jump up to 1Ghz and higher to do 3D work.

So AMD Gpu's don't go back from their 3d clock to the 2d clock or something?

I read somewhere a while ago that AMD GPU's don't dial back to 2d clocks after being at 3d clocks with one monitor and that NVIDIA ones do?

Mark here is exactly right, all video cards throttle back after a gaming session for example.

Only one exception here is if you are running a custom modded bios
