Question What are acceptable temps at idle when overclocked?

Hey everyone,

I have an older rig, reason being when i got into pc building i didn't want to fry anything expensive

My specs are as follows:

Gigabyte h55m usb3 mobo
i7 870 4 cores 8 threads OC'd to 3.9Ghz
gtx 1050ti 4gb OC'd to 1848mhz
16gb of gskill ripjaws Z 2133 mhz RAM
cooling-Arctic freezer 11.
Running win7 as i hate windows 10

At idle my cpu is sitting at about 46-49 at idle, i haven't run a stress test yet as i'm not sure about the idle temps. the case is a bog standard mini atx, and doesn't have the best airflow so i have sata powered fan controller so i can install a third fan at the front of the rig for better airflow. Are these temps ok for idle when OC?

Idle temps dont matter much unless they are under 80c. Those idle temps wont hurt anything and are not overly high. I would stress test it with prime 95 and as long ast temps are below 80c your cpu is safe.

49C is fine. That's going to mostly be dictated by what speed the mobo is driving the CPU fan @ while idle.
Again, nothing yo worry about.

Most people get a bit nervous once load temp goes above 75C. I'd say shoot for 80C or less.

I did a burn test all cores at 100% last night and it never went above 80, so it looks like it should be ok. I ran a few games on it too and it never got above 65. I just wasn't sure as it's the first time I've OC'd
