Hello,
I am rolling along pretty good now in the game, and I ran into someone
who wants me to join Imperials. He helped me out a bit and now I have moved
to Tatooine . I have done some Imperial missions, but is it a good thing to
join up? I really don't understand the whole thing, but I'm having fun now
at least . Thanks again to all who have been giving me pointers.
Linda

It can have some advantages. You can get faction equipment. You can get
faction pets, which can only be used for faction fighting. You can trade
faction for xp. If you want to do any pvp you have to join a faction. Also
it adds a lot of roleplaying as many guilds are faction oriented. You can do
the faction stories. And for imps they get the best faction pet, the at-st.
A high ranking imp can get away with illeagle actions.

But if you want to avoid pvp don't join a faction.

There are good and bad consequences that go along with joining a
faction, of course which category each falls in depends on your point of
view :) Here is how I break it down...

Good - Opens up more 'content'. You can do faction missions, and the
Imperial Themepark. You can attack rebel facilities like the Hyperdrive
Facility (I think that's the name). You can also participate in the
story arcs, assuming the devs ever produce another one after the last
debacle.

There are faction 'perks', such as pets, armor, and furniture. The pets
are worthless outside of being used for faction fights. The armor is
worthless (and expensive) except for looks... I mean the Stormie armor
looks COOL. I happen to like the rebel furniture, but it is also
expensive, but don't know what the Imperials have.

Bad - Opens you up to PvP. As it stands now, PvP is completely broken.
Hopefully the combat revamp (supposedly sometime this year) will fix it.
That said, if you can avoid the griefers, PvP isn't too bad. The only
thing you lose is some pride, prossibly some time, and a few faction
points :) Decay is mostly removed from PvP... I got killed two days ago
and only two things decayed (one being my Ubese Jacket, go figure). If
you are careful, and pay attention when you are TEF'd, you can avoid PvP
if you try.

Bases and turrets (I believe) are still bugged. As long as you don't
spend any hard-earned faction points on them, it won't matter too much
to you :)

Overall, I think joining a faction is great. The Imps are outnumbered
on most servers (though not as badly as some would have you believe) and
could really use the help.

Both factions (Rebel and Imperial) have perks and both factions can get
faction specific furniture, equipment and other things.
Some quests are faction specific and you must be in a factionto attact the
opposing faction NPC's that may lerk your area or city. Some cities are also
faction oriented and cities are always looking for new citizens
I think, being Neutral gives a newer player time to play and learn and play
the game without worrying about factions and PvP'ing and the GCW (Galactic
Civil War).
I chose to be a Rebel because I wanted to be a "good guy" on the "good
side". Not because there may be more of us or for any other reason.
Enjoy your game experience regardless of which faction you join. Contact me
if you wish to join our Rebel/Neutral city. Joining perks provided.

<snippity do da>

My guild's weaponsmith just made a brand new T21 for his combat alt to play
with.

340-830 dmg, 8 attack speed
And of course, heavy AP.

Master Riflemen get +90 rifle speed, maxed at the speed cap with 95 if they
choose to master marksman. This T21 is no longer attack speed 8 but attack
speed 1.
Imagine seeing a 2k mind damage floaty above your head during PvP, and even
better, from a GTEFer.

Once a second. That is if you can survive the first shot.

Armorsmiths on my server do not make high energy resist armor. And the
thought of getting obliterated with one shot even after all the mind buffs I
get prior to combat makes me opt to not participate in PvP. If a rifleman
could do that much DPS (damage per second), imagine just how easy taking
down a canyon Krayt dragon would be.

Radial menu problems I can live with, I rarely even use them. Warping off
of your bike is easy enough to avoid, simply do not move while getting on
your bike. Cantina warping, while annoying and sometimes humorous at times,
isn't what I call *game breaking*.

And I ask again..... Who's whining made the combat system this way? It
sure wasn't the PvE factions was it?

So here we go then: "Amen Brother!"

Thanks Oolan for giving an excellent precis of what has gone on with
balance over time.
