What are my options?

I disassembled a dell dimension 2400 and it had no bracket for its fan. Just 4 holes in the case. I want to transfer this to another case but I don't know what the processor socket is to buy a fan & bracket. It is an intel pentium 4 thats all I know. Any help would be great.

The pentium4 are lga 775. They are quite hot running, so the scoop used to shove the heat out of that Dell works well. Unfortunately it's a Dell, and as with most things Dell, that scoop is proprietary, I don't know of another case it will fit, so an aftermarket cooler would be advisable. Get the best budget will allow, it'll only make for a better experience and a lot less noise.

It is not lga775. It's pga478. You can confirm with cpuz. I really wouldn't bother with changing case. People just throw these old rigs out. You can get a core 2 duo pc for $50 and that's as low as you really ever see desktops go before they end up in the trash.

The original p4 Williamette released in Nov 2000 was socket 423. This was replaced by the Northwood cpus socket 478 in Jan of 2002, and yet again in 2004 by lga 775 Prescott. The 423 was abandoned quickly at 1.3GHz-1.5GHz and replaced by the 478 which covered 1.6GHz to 3.2GHz, the lga 775 Prescott covering 3.4GHz and up, including the extreme editions. Since the 2.66GHz is a Northwood cpu,that would make it socket 478. I stand corrected. My Dell P4 was a 3.4GHz lga 775 Prescott and I didn't do the research correctly into socket changes since intel doesn't change sockets yet retain the cpu. My mistake. Appreciate the correction.

I'd feel better if you gave best answer to k1114 since it is the correct answer for your application at socket 478 and mine wasn't.
